Moorish Morocco Tour
I am excited to share a new project developed with my husband, Moroccan luthier and oud player Faouzi Saouli: the Moorish Morocco Tour.
This is a bespoke cultural journey through Northern Morocco, designed for travellers who want more than just sightseeing. Together, we’ll explore the rich history of Moroccan pattern and design while engaging with the living traditions of artisans who continue to create and preserve these beautiful places. Along the way, you’ll take part in hands-on pattern drawing workshops, visit historic mosques, madrasas, and medinas, and experience Moroccan hospitality in carefully chosen settings that balance comfort with authenticity.
24 April – 8 May, 2026
15 days & nights
Join Faouzi and I on an immersive 15-day journey through northern Morocco, a region where centuries of exchange have shaped sacred architecture, music, craftsmanship, and ways of life.
At the heart of the tour are the pattern drawing workshops I will guide you step by step through how to construct traditional geometric designs by hand. No experience necessary, the workshops are designed for beginners as well as those with a creative background. These quiet, meditative sessions are a chance to slow down, focus, and connect with the architecture around you on a deeper level through rhythm, proportion, and pattern. Alongside these sessions, we’ll also meet and learn from Moroccan artisans in their own workshops, opening a window into the living heritage of craft and design still practiced today.
Faouzi brings his own artistry as a luthier and musician, offering insight into Morocco’s musical traditions and their deep connection to culture and history. He will bring his Oud along and treat us to music along the way.
Together, we guide you through Fez, Chefchaouen, Tetouan, and Tangier, with visits to Meknes and the Roman ruins of Volubilis. This is slow travel, an opportunity to connect deeply with one of Morocco’s most historic and artistically rich regions, through the lens of pattern, music, and lived experience. See the detailed itinerary for more information.
This tour is for anyone with a curiosity for art, design, and culture who wants to immerse themselves in Morocco’s living traditions, combining cultural exploration with creative practice in a supportive and inspiring setting.
About Us
We met in 2014 while I was on an artist residency in Sefrou, Faouzi’s hometown near Fez. A year later we were married and living together in Casablanca. More than a decade on, after several years in Australia with my family, we have now returned to Morocco to continue our shared life and creative work.
My own art practice spans digital and alternative photo media, and for ten years I have been studying and teaching geometric design, a passion that lies at the heart of this tour. Faouzi is a luthier and musician, crafting and playing the oud. While in Australia he explored the use of native timbers in his instruments, bringing together his Moroccan heritage with the materials of a new landscape.
Together, we are excited to share with you the traditions, artistry, and beauty of Morocco through this carefully designed journey.
