Nicolas Henry
Nicolas Henry (born in Paris, France, in 1978) is a French photographer, visual artist and theatre director. He graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris.
His practice exists at the intersection of portraiture, theatre and installation. Working in collaboration with entire communities, he creates dreamlike worlds inhabited by characters who perform within them. Combining writing, photography and sculpture, his work has been exhibited internationally.
Alongside his career as a lighting designer and scenographer for theatre productions, Henry travelled the world as a filmmaker for Yann Arthus-Bertrand's 6 Billion Others project. He later served as Artistic Director for the project's exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris.
Following his portrait series of elders from around the world, The Cabins of Our Grandparents (Actes Sud), he published Imaginary Tales Around the World – Worlds in the Making with Albin Michel in 2016. The book received the Mediterranean Art Book Prize in 2017.
Mous Lamrabat
Mous Lamrabat (born in Morocco in 1983) is a Moroccan-Belgian photographer whose work explores themes of identity, representation and cultural belonging. Having moved to Belgium at a young age, he has developed a distinctive visual practice shaped equally by his Moroccan heritage and contemporary Western culture.
His meticulously staged photographs combine references to fashion, popular culture and Moroccan traditions to create visual worlds that are at once bold, poetic and infused with humour. Through these compositions, Lamrabat challenges cultural stereotypes and dominant narratives, offering a vision of identity that embraces multiplicity and freedom of interpretation.
His work has gained widespread international recognition and has been exhibited in numerous museums, galleries and festivals dedicated to contemporary photography. Having collaborated with publications including Vogue, NATAAL, Lush Magazine and many others, Mous Lamrabat has established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary photography.
M'hammed Kilito
M'hammed Kilito (born in Ukraine in 1981) is a visual artist and National Geographic Explorer based in Rabat.
His photographic practice explores the relationships between individuals, communities and their environments, addressing themes such as cultural identity, memory, social change and the impacts of climate change.
His photography has received awards and support from prestigious institutions including the World Press Photo Foundation, the National Geographic Society, the Magnum Foundation and the Prince Claus Fund. His work has been published in international media including The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic Magazine, British Journal of Photography and Vogue Italia, and has been exhibited internationally.
His work forms part of several major institutional collections, including the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden (MACAAL) in Marrakech, the Fotofilmic Collections in Vancouver and the Fondation François Schneider in France.
Hiba Baddou
Hiba Baddou (born in Rabat in 1997) is a Moroccan multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses photography, film, painting, performance and art direction. Her work explores themes of identity, ritual and cultural transmission through a visual language that combines contemporary imaginaries, Moroccan cultural references and a retrofuturist aesthetic.
A graduate in film directing from the École Internationale de Création Audiovisuelle et de Réalisation (EICAR) in Paris, and later in art direction from Penninghen, she has developed a practice that moves between fiction and collective memory.
Her work has been presented at major institutions in Morocco and internationally, including the Musée de la Photographie in Rabat, the Villas des Arts in Rabat and Casablanca, the Dak'Art – Dakar Biennale, and MACAAL in Marrakech. Her short film La Sacralisation des Images (The Sacralisation of Images) won First Prize at the AVIFF Art Film Festival in 2024, as well as the Art for Change Prize at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
In 2025, she presented a solo exhibition at the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden (MACAAL) in Marrakech. That same year, her work was presented by Loft Art Gallery at Paris Photo.
Joana Choumali
Joana Choumali (born in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, in 1974) studied graphic arts in Casablanca, Morocco. Today, conceptual photography and mixed media are her principal forms of artistic expression.
Her work focuses on Africa and often takes a documentary approach. The relationship between past and present is also a central element of her practice.
Since 2016, Choumali has incorporated textiles into her photographic work. Following the terrorist attack in Grand-Bassam, she photographed the coastal town, a peaceful retreat she had long associated with happy childhood memories and family gatherings. Looking back at the images she had taken on her iPhone, she decided to embroider them. Through this slow, meditative gesture, she pays tribute to the victims while seeking to heal the wounds left by the tragedy.
Choumali continues to explore the world around her through photography while integrating textiles into her recent work. The result is a body of delicate, dreamlike works in which reality and imagination intertwine through a deeper process of introspection. She was awarded the 8th Prix Pictet in November 2019.
Mustapha Azeroual
Mustapha Azeroual (born in Morocco in 1979) is a visual artist and photographer based in Marseille. Trained as a scientist and self-taught in photography, he has developed an experimental practice that explores the physical properties of light, the mechanisms of perception and the materiality of the image.
Working across photography, installation and scientific research, Azeroual pushes the boundaries of the photographic medium, transforming the image into a space for experimentation and visual discovery. This approach has led him to collaborate with a number of research institutions, including the Paris-Meudon Observatory. Among his best-known series are Radiance, Monades and Actin, which investigate the physical properties of light and optical phenomena.
His work has been presented at numerous international institutions and art fairs, including Paris Photo, Art Paris, Art Dubai, Art Basel Qatar, the Institut du Monde Arabe, and MACAAL. His work is held in several major public and private collections, including the Centre Pompidou, the Musée Français de la Photographie in Bièvres, MACAAL, the CDG Foundation, and the J.P. Morgan Collection in New York.
